From a fairly early age my oldest child has been a “builder”. He’s 9 now and still loves to construct things whether it’s puzzles, Legos or any other building type toy. We recently had the opportunity to try out Lux Blox, a building toy that is bendable. It features a snap and lock hinge system that allows the pieces to bend, twist, turn and flex without breaking. The design of the building pieces allows kids to create structures that are curved.
Lux Blox blends architectural principles, spacial literacy and creativity into one fun toy. All 3 of my kids (ages 5, 7 and 9) enjoyed Lux Blox. It’s funny how differently they are played with between children though. My youngest used a stick to stack pieces on to make a Popsicle. My middle child loved creating different patterns and my oldest wanted to recreate the ball shown on the box.
Since this toy was designed to inspire creativity the kits do not come with instructions. My girls didn’t have a problem with that at all however my son wasn’t thrilled about this. He couldn’t figure out how to make the ball without instructions. Luckily there was a note inside the lid that mentioned directions could be found on the Lux Blox website. He went right to it and had the ball built in no time! He’s really good at reading and following directions. Afterwards he designs from his own imagination but he always likes to start off with a pre-designed project.
