If your kids watch television at all they’ve probably seen the commercial for Magna Color 3D. My kids go nuts every time the commercial comes on. They were over the moon when we received one to review and couldn’t wait to try it out. This unique toy uses colorful metal dots to create 3 Dimensional works of art on the magnetic board. Use the specially designed pens to apply the metal dots to the designs stencils the put on the 3D viewing glasses to watch your creation pop right off the page in stunning 3D! Then sweep the metal dots into the sorting system to reload your pens and start all over again. All of the pieces of The Magna Color 3D are self-contained within the unit for a mess-free activity parents will appreciate and kids will enjoy. The Magna Color 3D Magnetic Design Station includes:
- 160 3D Magic Dots in 4 different colors
- 1 pair of Ultra Vision Glasses
- Specially-designed magnetic drawing studio with screen sweeper
- 4 design stencils
- 4 pens
Magna Color 3D is a great quiet time activity and can be used on-the-go. It retails for $24.99.
My oldest, Jackson, has a lot of fun using the Magna Color 3D. It’s the perfect activity for him while his sisters take a nap. Jackson enjoys every step of the process, not just the picture creation. In fact, I think he might even like loading the pens more than creating designs. It’s pretty neat how the little metal dots are sorted just by shaking the unit. Watching them separate into their own compartments is fascinating. We did run into some trouble getting the green dots to load into their pen. They kept turning sideways and getting stuck because they are so small.
The unit we received came with 4 pens but there are slots for 6. Additional metal dot colors can be added. The blue add-on dots are even smaller than the green ones. I wonder if the same issue we had with the green dots would also occur with the blue. On the other hand, the pink add-on dots are the largest and the bigger they are, the easier they seem to load.
Overall this is a really cool toy and it’s construction well thought out. There’s a lot of hype about this toy but I can see why. It appeals to both children and their parents with the self-contained, mess-free design. Having already experienced it, I can say that I think the toy is worth it!
