I have so much to be thankful for which I’ve been reflecting on a lot during this month of Thanksgiving. High on the list is our family’s health. My kiddos must have excellent immune systems because they rarely get sick (knock on wood). Until this past week there hasn’t been so much as a sniffle since well before school started. This week though all three of my kiddos have a yucky cough and runny noses. I always hesitate to medicate my kids because I wonder if it does more harm than good. I like to try natural and safe remedies first. As if on cue, a sample of Maty’s All Natural Baby Chest Rub arrived yesterday and we tried it immediately.
My 6 year old’s symptoms were more severe than the girls. He had been coughing quite a bit and I was curious to see if the chest rub would help. I rubbed some on his neck/chest area and he complained a little bit about the smell but the girls wanted to try it too. I was somewhat concerned about the topical application, as I am with any topical product because 2 of my 3 kids have very sensitive skin. We’ve tried lots of natural products and just because they are natural doesn’t mean they can’t be an irritant. The fact that this product is petroleum and menthol free eased my hesitation some and I was pleased that we didn’t run into any skin problems.
Maty’s All Natural Baby Chest Rub comes in a little jar. The consistency is very similar to vaseline though a bit harder in the jar. It softens easily with the warmth of your fingers and rubbing it into your skin. With the first application we thought it helped but weren’t sure. With the second application we paid more attention and were pretty impressed with the results. Though this isn’t a cough suppressant type product it really helped in that regard. His coughing fits eased rather dramatically with the second application which I applied more liberally since it didn’t seem to irritate his skin. My allergies have been insane this year and this rub helped me breathe a little easier too! Now I’m very interested in the rest of the products in the Maty’s line!
