A little over a year ago we bought a 3 bedroom house — for a family of 5. We have plenty of space and our girls could easily share a room. My oldest daughter’s bedroom is huge. Originally we wanted to keep our youngest closer to our bedroom so we made the small office into her bedroom rather than putting her upstairs with her siblings. It’s actually worked out quite well. When we first moved in she had a basket of books and a couple of stuffed animals in her room along with her bed and that was it. The toys were kept in the playroom. Things have slowly migrated to her room though and it has been taken over by stuffed animals and toys. She didn’t want to part with them so we needed to come up with a solution. Her room doesn’t have a closet so we needed something cute to organize her toys.
While I was shopping online at Kohl’s I came across this Step2 Fun Time Organizer. I loved the colors and thought it was really cute but I wanted something more like a shelf. This organizer is a great price by the way — it’s only $74.99 regular price so with a sale, % off coupon and Kohl’s Cash you can score an awesome deal on it!
Instead, I went with the slightly more expensive RiverRidge Kids Cabinet ($130). I loved the colors of this one too and found it to be a little more versatile. I thought about pulling out the top three bins and using the shelves as a bookcase but since I already had a basket for her books, I kept all of the bins in place (for now). I used to top of the cabinet as a shelf for all of Parker’s favorite stuffed animals. As you can see from the “Before” picture, she has about a million of them. That’s where the Boon Stuffed Animal Storage Bag comes in. This thing is pretty amazing. It doesn’t look like it can hold much but you can really pack the stuff animals in. It has a really sturdy zipper on it. The plush sides are soft and furry while the mesh on the top acts as a window for all of your snuggly friends. Regular price for this item is $48, and worth every penny in my opinion! It really does an excellent job of taming the stuffed animal jungle!
Even after using these organizational products, Parker still had a bunch of random toys left over. Rather than using a traditional toy box, I used a cute laundry hamper that I found at a bargain store. Kohl’s has some really cute ones too, including one with a Chevron pattern that I wouldn’t mind having myself! It would be perfect in the living room for the blankets we like to snuggle up with when we watch T.V.!
Parker loves her new, organized room. In fact, she’s been keeping it tidy all by herself and doing a better job at age 3 than her older siblings! I’m impressed since the “before” picture was the norm. I’d clean up her room, then during her nap she would pull E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. back out again! We are both much happier now!
