We have several tablets in our home and our kids use them often. We use them for educational purposes as well as pleasure. Yes, our kids watch Netflix. They love watching YouTube Kids and playing mindless games like Crossy Road. They also greatly benefit from other apps that make it fun to practice math facts, typing and reading. I love technology and am grateful for the experiences it provides from both standpoints.
One of my favorite new apps for the kids is a mixture of both. Peter And The Wolf In Hollywood is a partially animated story book with interactive game mixed in. The story is a revival from the classic Peter and the Wolftale brought to you by acclaimed production company, Giants Are Small. In this version Peter moves in with his hippy grandpa who cares for a hollywood star’s mansion grounds. Peter’s best friend is a duck. When he finds out that a wolf has escaped from the zoo he figures out a way to catch it. The story is narrated by Rock n’ Roll legend Alice Cooper and is focused on the themes of family and friendship, courage and heroism.
The app’s illustrations are really neat with hundreds of handmade visuals. There are 8 games interspersed in the app including one where kids get to help build a robot.
The best thing about this app in my opinion though is that the soundtrack was made by one of the best youth orchestras in the world introducing kids to Prokofiev, Wagner, Mahler, and more! The National Youth Orchestra of Germany plays the soundtrack to Peter & The Wolf in Hollywood beautifully. It’s a neat way for kids to experience classical music that they might not otherwise. There’s about 50 minutes of music including an original score by Prokofiev.

Sounds like a great app for my grandchildren and one they would have fun with. I’ll have to pass it along to my daughter.
