I got a tablet device a few years ago as a Christmas gift. It’s been taken over by the children. Someone is always using it and it isn’t me! I finally got a turn the other day and discovered that I couldn’t even get an app I wanted unless I deleted some of the kids apps. While I love the educational and entertainment elements for my children, I want my device back! That’s where PlayMG comes in. It’s a pocket sized entertainment device capable of all of their favorites like Netflix and games like Angry Birds. It’s Wi-Fi enabled so it has internet access for easy downloads.
There are no expensive data plans or game cartridges. Comparatively, PlayMG is an inexpensive option for gaming with a retail price of $179.99 for the unit (only $159.99 shipped at Amazon) which comes with the following:
Features include:
- Big 4″ touchscreen encased in a sleek, sophisticated and sturdy “pocketable” design: rounded corners and grip provide a perfect hold on the app-play experience
- Built in Wi-Fi allows entry into the unlimited world of low-cost and free app gaming
- MG Family Collaboration System: Includes $10 offer from SpendSmartTM prepaid MasterCard®, “Digital Wallet” and “Remote Trust” notification functions.
- $10 worth of top EA Mobile games ‘Need for Speed Hot Pursuit’ and ‘NBA JAM’ preloaded
- 1.3 Megapixel Front-Facing Camera and ability to shoot and play video
- Stereo Headset Jack
- Operating on ICS 4.0 ; includes new Face Unlock security feature
I think it’s a great value and would make an excellent holiday gift for those that are on the extra nice list this year. The proprietary notification function called “Remote Trust”allows parents to view their kid’s activity (downloads, what apps are used, and even time spent on the MG device) from a distance. Add your email to the system at set-up and then you can receive updates on your computer or smartphone about your child’s MG activity. Additionally, MG has partnered with SpendSmart Prepaid MasterCard to provide a way for parents to control spending. This feature allows parents to set up a reloadable debit account for their kids to offer “game allowances” that they can use for micro-transactions so you won’t have to worry about putting your credit card at risk. Bonus: No more being bothered for every $.99 purchase! Both of these features help teach responsibility without having to constantly monitor your child. You put more responsibility in their hands.
Disney Star Olivia Holt was at the Tony Hawk’s Stand Up For Skate Parks event recently. She was there with the PlayMG team and hung out with celeb guests such as Ben Harper, Rob Dyrdek, Eve, Jason Lee, Tony Hawk, Fred Durst, Jon Favreau, Kyle Massey, and Skateboarder Nyjah Huston. I love how she’s wearing the PlayMG as a necklace. The unit actually has a place for a clip on one end and now that I’ve seen how it’s used, I’m going to have to add something like this for my kids. It will help keep them from dropping it and more importantly, from losing it!
A complimentary product/service was provided for this review, however, all opinions expressed are my own. I was not compensated in any other way. See Mommies With Cents disclosure policy for more details.
