My kids love crafting but we lead pretty busy lives filled with sports and other activities that make it hard to find time big craft projects. I love to craft myself but rarely find the time these days unless it’s something quick and easy. That’s why I love PomTree Kids. The offer a variety of adorable craft kits for kids that don’t need glue, paint, tape etc. which really keeps messes to a minimum — something THIS mom can really appreciate! The crafts are simple and don’t require a lot of time but are fun and give my kids something creative to do when we have a little extra time at home. This week was school conferences so the kids had a couple of days off of school, the perfect time to try out some of the new PomTree Kids craft kits priced at $13 or less.
This Felt Puppy and Bone Pillow Puff Kit was the perfect project for my 5 year old daughter. The pictures in the instructions mean she doesn’t have to know all the words in the directions. She can clearly see what the steps are. When she needed up, she asked me but mostly she could do this project on her own. Basically this is just a peel and stick kit. All of the pieces are adhesive backed and made to fit together like a puzzle to create an adorable plush puppy. A kitten set is also available.
My girl’s like me. She likes to craft on the floor. I always feel like I have a lot more room when I set up shop on the floor. McKinley worked on this project while I worked on my laptop just above her on the couch so I could be by her side if she needed some direction.
I think she did a pretty good job on this! We just need to fold the ears down so that the pattern side shows. The only clean up is picking up the sticker backing and throwing it in the trash. As my daughter would say “easy-peasy!” My four year old daughter loved the completed project, named it “Sparkle Puppy” and carried it around all day.
The Mommy & Baby Owl Pom Pals Kit ($13) is the same concept except the plush body of the owl is already put together. There’s no sewing or “stickering” it closed. My oldest two worked on this project together. We ran into a little issue with the eyes because the kids couldn’t get the backing off correctly and didn’t realize they were peeling off an extra layer. I was able to intervene mid crisis and fix the problem. On this one I also had to remind the kids to be careful to stick the pieces exactly where they want them because it’s almost impossible to reposition them once they are stuck. The adhesive gets fuzz on it if you have to remove it making it very difficult to stick it back down again.

I loved seeing my kids work together on this project. My son got to practice his reading skills with the directions and the visual images on the directions helped him interpret them correctly.
The final product is adorable! They have so much fun making these kits but I’d say the finished projects are better for looks, maybe up on a shelf in their bedroom, than for playing with. The pieces don’t stay on that well. I found one of them stuck to my shoe later the same day.
The Pom Jewelry Kit has to be my favorite of the 3 because I love watching my kids create their own works of art when they are able to “freestyle” This affordable bucket of fun ($10!) comes with 405 pieces to craft your own rings, bracelets, necklaces and more. Even my son got in on the action by creating a zipper pull for his backpack:
My four year old had a lot of fun too — her sister helped her out as needed:
My girls love jewelry so they had a blast with this kit. There’s still a lot left over so this is a project that can do again. I’m sure it won’t be long before they are asking for it!
We tend to use our electronic devices more than we probably should so I really appreciate crafts like these that allow my kids to get creative without the stress of a giant mess to clean up afterwards.
