Laurie Peterson is an award-winning toy designer and mother who founded Build & Imagine after noticing that toys involving building, creativity and experimentation were not very well represented in the girls’ section of most toy stores. She developed Build & Imagine magnetic building sets with female characters and details that will engage both boys and girls. While the sets are marketed towards girls, all three of my kids including my son really enjoy them and they have proven to keep them engaged even after the newness wore off.
My son is the builder of the family. He’s 8 but he doesn’t care if it’s a Barbie Mega Bloks set or a Jurrasic World Lego set — he just loves to build. I wasn’t surprised that he was really excited to play with the Build & Imagine sets, and his sisters were too! We started with one set which they quickly built. They wanted to open another set immediately so I gave them the two other sets.
With more pieces, they were able to build more elaborate structures and stories. I love how well they play together when they play with these Build & Imagine sets. They work together, share their ideas and tell creative stories.
The blocks are easy to use with magnetic panels that “fuse” together as walls, ceilings and roofs. Each side has a different picture or pattern making them even more versatile to create different scenes. The pictures on the panels act as story starters and each building set comes with dress-up dolls and more than 40 magnetic costumes and props to really spark children’s creativity. It’s the extra details that make these sets so fun to play with. We didn’t put them away for days because the kids kept going back to them and playing.
After about a week I finally picked them up and put them away because we were having company over. It wasn’t long before the search was on. Without asking me, they went on a hunt and found them to bring out to play with again.
My son kept asking me to buy more sets, even after I explained to him that we already had them all. He thought maybe there was another “series” we could get. Luckily, 2 new building sets will be available in October! Currently, choose from the following three sets, each winners of several awards!:
