Long before I had kids I had a jewelry making hobby. I loved shopping at bead stores and collecting all different types of beads. I made necklaces, bracelets and anklets mostly. I even did a few craft fairs where I tried selling my creations. After I got married and started having babies I didn’t have time for this hobby anymore and I was afraid to have such small pieces around that could be a danger to my kids. My beads have been packed away for years but my kids are older now and my girls have actually taken an interest in jewelry making!
The other day I dug out all of my supplies and gave some beads to my girls to experiment with. It sparked something in me and I realized how much I missed doing beadwork over the years. My time is still very limited but I don’t have to worry about leaving a project out while I am working on it because my kids are 14, 12, and 10 now. When I heard about PotomacBeads subscription box I thought it would be a fun way for me and my girls to check out new beads and be inspired by new projects.

I got the “Best Bead Box” from Potomac Beads. The one I received had a “Seaside Zen” theme and came with materials and instructions to make a Yoga Bracelet. A Best Bead Box comes with one jewelry making kit plus beads for your stash. Another options is the Best Bead Box XL which comes with TWO jewelry making kits, one bonus pattern and beads for your stash.

I was pleasantly surprised with the contents of my box. I love that everything came in a nice box with a magnetic closure. Everything was included for the bracelet project plus I got 12 more products that consisted of a wide variety of beads. What I loved most about this box is that many of the beads weren’t necessarily ones I would have picked out on my own but they are all really neat and would work well together in any project. This really got my creative juices flowing, thinking of all the different combinations I could try together or even with other beads from my own stash.

The beads were all nice quality — no plastic kids beads or anything like that. Each little packet is labeled with the name and product number in case you need to order more. Speaking of ordering, the Potomac Beads website is amazing! You’ll find everything you need and more for all your beading projects! It’s really cool to browse and a new way for me to shop for beads since back when I used to make jewelry, online bead stores didn’t exist! I remember that Ebay was pretty new and I did buy some beads that way but the majority of my purchases were from brick and mortar bead stores and craft stores.
