The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has teamed up with Duracell to help provide families with important information about school year safety. According to NCMEC most abductions occur between the hours of 2 pm and 7 pm. Nearly half of all non-family abduction attempts happen when a child is walking to or from school or a school-related event. 74% are girls between the ages of 10 and 14.
Have you taken the time to have an important safety discussion with your children? Studies show that only 58% have. This can have a big impact on the safety of our children. The Power of Parents wants to raise that number by providing parents with a free safety handbook that will help guide you with this important conversation with your child. It provides safety tips for four developmental stages: infant-toddler, ages 4-6, ages 7-11 and ages 12-17. The handbook outlines age-appropriate tips and scenarios and is available for free at powerofparentsonline.com.
Other resources are also available for free such as a child photo ID kit and a storybook that helps teach children about important safety lessons.
