With a two year old, an eight month old, a hubby, a blog and a house to take care of I find it hard to find the time to read a good book. It’s unfortunate because it’s something I really enjoyed prior to kids. I’m sure once they are a little older I will be able to dive into a good book. Until then, my sister-in-law, Jocylin who is also a stay at home mom of two school aged boys, is happy to help me with book reviews. She recently read The Summer Kitchen. The following is her review:
I just finished reading The Summer Kitchen by Karen Weinreb. The book is about a bedford wife, Nora, who’s husband, Evan, gets arrested for a white collar crime. Nora who has always been a stay at home mom raising her three children, is forced to take a job in a bakery to support them. None of her “friends” stand by her after she loses everything, except for the boys nanny, Beatriz. One woman is doing everything she can to make sure she runs Nora out of town. Now Nora opens up a business of her own called The Summer Kitchen Bakery-Cafe. Along the way, Nora changes everything about herself and realizes that to save her family and marriage she needs to change her way of thinking about life.
I really liked this book. I found myself picking it up all day long just to find out what happened next.
The author, Karen Weinreb, personally experienced a dizzying financial, social, and emotional downfall when her now-ex-husband pleaded guilty to wire fraud and was incarcerated in a federal prison. While her book, The Summer Kitchen, is a work of fiction it is loosely based on her own experiences.
