When my kids were babies I never thought to use music on my phone to help soothe them but I wish I would have! Rockabyboo, a new app co-created by renowned British singer-songwrite Beulah and Dax Kimbrough, a 20-year entertainment industry veteran who has worked with artists such as Katy Perry and Nirvana, is the first over mobile app that allows parents to play lullabies, stories and songs for their children. The really unique feature is having the ability to customize the stories and melodies with your child’s name. The app features over 1,000 baby names across three languages: English, Spanish and French.
I downloaded the app to give it a try. My youngest is five but can still use some help getting to sleep some nights. I search for her name, Parker, and it came up. I love that it allowed for me to also select the gender because “Parker” is much more common as a boys name than a girl’s.
Next, I checked out most of the songs. I was VERY pleasantly surprised. In fact, the songs are so pretty and relaxing I’ve been listening to them myself the whole morning! They are very soothing and I love the sound of the piano accompanied by a very pretty voice with a slight accent.
Currently there are only two stories available but they are great! These original stories have good messages/lessons and are read with a soothing pace and tone. They inspire the imagination and I am sure my kids are going to love them, even at ages 5, 6 and 8.
The Rockabyboo app is great. I wish I would have had it when my kids were younger! One of the features I love as a parent is that it can operate in the background so that while you’re rocking your baby and playing them a story or a lullaby, you can multi-task and check your email or use other apps on your device.
You can check out some examples of lullabies here. They are beautiful!:
