Schoola: Teaching Kids to Give Back
I’m still hanging on to summer but at the same time I’m already thinking ahead to the holidays. The days really fly by and Christmas is just around the corner! For me, the holidays are a time of giving and teaching our kids to give back. Every year we find some sort of children’s charity to support by “adopting” some children or a family and blessing them with gifts. My kids participate in every step from choosing the charity, shopping for gifts and delivering the packages. We talk about those that are less fortunate and what we can do to help. It’s important to my that my kids have empathy and a charitable heart and it’s never to early to start teaching them that no matter their circumstances, there are always ways to give back.
How do you teach your children about the importance of giving back to others in need?
There are so many ways to support charities year round, many of which don’t take any money out of your own pocket. If you are selective about how you shop, you can easily support a number of charities by making purchases for things you already need! Schoola is a great example.
Schoola is helping Yick Wo Elementary School to fund an art program. They have a goal of $25,000 and we can help them reach it! Art is one of the most important parts of many student’s lives. It helps teach them that it’s ok to be creative and take risks at school not only in the art room, but in the other subjects they study as well. It’s well known that art programs are beneficial to students however they are still not covered by most public school’s budgets. The parents at Yick Wo Elementary want to make sure that their students have an art class anyway. Schoola is forming a community to help them achieve their goal. YOU can help them do it! Here’s how:
- Shop on Schoola — for every transaction via this link, Schoola will donate $1 to Yick Wo Elemenatary School. They’ve got name brands at a fraction of the cost so get a jump on your back-to-school shopping and stretch your budget a lot further!
- Request a Donation Bag — $1 will be donated to Yick Wo Elementary for every bag requested. The bags are free and postage is covered to return the bag full of outgrown clothing to help support the school of your choice. $2 of every $5 made from the sale of donated clothing will go back to the school you’ve chosen to support. It’s win/win! The featured school is supported, as well as another school of your choosing!
I know I’ll be cleaning out my kids closets soon to organize and prepare for the coming school year. It’s a great time to donate the clothes they no longer wear and Schoola makes it so easy! Join me in making more room your kids dresser drawers by requesting a donation bag of your own. Clear out the clutter and send it to Schoola for FREE and help TWO schools in the process! Don’t forget to tell all your mommy friends too! The more communities work together, the more they benefit!
I had the opportunity to give Schoola a try. I had so much fun shopping! You can sort by size or brand or even by condition of the clothing. For around $20 I got a pair of denim Justice shorts, a GAP top, another cute top and a brand new pair of tights. They arrived clean and nicely wrapped and I was pretty impressed with the quality. I probably would have paid $20 for the shorts alone! Best of all 40% of the money spent goes directly to schools! You’ve got nothing to lose by browsing the site to see if there’s something you like. I encourage you to give it a try!
