You know how some toys seem to lose their appeal to kids after a few weeks once the novelty has worn off? Those are a big bummer to parents who spend their hard earned money on them. I know that as a parent, I try to make good purchasing decisions so that my money doesn’t go to waste. There have been a handful of toys over the last few years that have been a good investment. Skylanders is one of them. Skylanders is a unique video game in that it uses actual physical toys during play with a portal that allows them to be played on-screen. There have been several versions of the game since the original in 2011 and all of them have been a hit with my 7 year old son. Recently, a brand new version was released — Skylanders Trap Team.
I’m excited about this new version because I know it will be a big hit. Also, for the first time, this video game is available to play on a tablet platform. The Skylanders Trap Team Tablet Starter Pack will include a Bluetooth®-enabled controller for the best possible play experience; a built-in tablet stand; two Skylanders characters; two Traps; and a display tray that lets Portal Masters keep track of the Traps they’ve collected and which villains they have trapped. The Tablet Starer pack is compatible with the following tablets:
- Apple iPad 3rd Generation, iPad 4th Generation, iPad Mini Retina, iPad Air
- Kindle Fire HDX (7” & 8.9”)
- Google Nexus 7 (2013)
- Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro (8.4”, 10.1”, 12.2”)
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S (8.4”, 10.5”)
- Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014), Galaxy Note Pro 12.2
Another thing I can appreciate from Activision is the fact that they’ve made the Skylanders characters forward compatible which means that all the figures from previous versions of the game with work with the new version. We have a ton of Skylanders figures and it’s nice knowing that these aren’t obsolete. There are 175 existing characters so this is a big deal!
Trap Team will introduce more than 50 new playable heroes and more than 40 villains. The game is filled with adventure, combat, puzzles, mini games, activities and more. I suspect this is why it holds my child’s attention — how could it ever get boring with so much to do and experience?
“In Skylanders Trap Team, you can play as a Skylander or capture Skylands’ most wanted foes and unleash them for good. It’s up to Portal Masters to find these villains and capture them inside the new Traps that transport the villains into the real world via the Traptanium Portal. Once trapped, players can return the villain to Skylands as a playable character. This exciting new play pattern gives fans the option to switch between playing as a Skylander hero or a villain at any time, creating fun and unique “tag team” gameplay.”
Trap Team is also available for the following consoles:
- Nintendo Wii™, Wii U™, 3DS™
- Xbox 360™ and Xbox One™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft
- PlayStation®3 and PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system
