“Some things, like how the baby ended up in your belly, are hard for kids to digest. But Rice Krispies® cereal is easy to digest. That’s because it’s made of rice, which moms know is gentle on little tummies.”
Until recently, I never gave much thought as to why rice cereal is recommended as baby’s first food. Obviously it’s gentle on baby’s tummy but the main reason is because it’s not known as an allergen. More and more people are finding out that they’re gluten intolerant. Gluten is found in grains such as wheat and barley and is in so many products, even unsuspecting ones! My kids are very aware gluten sensitivities, not because they have them themselves, but because Grandma does. Close family friends also eat completely gluten-free due to Celiac disease so social gatherings are always carefully planned.
It’s funny how you don’t realize certain things until you’re forced to take a closer look. There’s something to this gluten thing. New studies are being done all of the time. I once considered wheat bread to be the holy grail. Now I question it’s health benefits. Luckily, we aren’t in a situation where immediate health is a concern when gluten is involved. My kids don’t seem to have a strong reaction to it. That doesn’t mean I don’t think about what I would do if it did become a concern. I think about the things we would still be able to eat and what we would have to cut out. My children are BIG cereal fans. When I thought about that, I panicked a little. What would I do?! Oh, wait. Kellogg’s Rice Krispies are one of their favorite cereals and it’s gluten free! Phew!
Regardless of gluten sensitivities, it’s nice to start the day off with something gentle on tummies. Kellogg’s Rice Krispies are perfect!
On a little side note, it’s no wonder our kids questions us sometimes. We can be so hard to understand!:
