If there’s one thing I can count on every holiday season it’s that building bricks will be on my son’s wish list. It’s usually the only thing he asks for. I used to think that Lego was was my only option however I was recently introduced to Strictly Briks and found them to be an excellent source for all things brick related! Their selection is awesome and the prices are pretty good too!
One of Strictly Briks best sellers are their baseplates. They have so many options to choose from but my son was especially excited about their large 15.75″x 15.75″ baseplates in green. He’s been building baseball stadiums and wanted to bump up the size. He was surprised at just how big these baseplates are — he didn’t realize the measurement was in inches. He thought it was the number of dots along each edge. Now he has plenty of room for stadium seating, a bull pen, locker rooms, parking and more! Here’s what Strictly Briks founder and CEO Brian Semling had to say about their baseplates: “Our stackable baseplates, combined with our patent pending Stackers™, allow you to take your building to a whole new level – vertically! Kids can quickly and easily build a tower, a skyscraper, parking garage, castle, or other structure that stands out above the rest! Unlike other brands, this unique base plate has a bottom that is designed to be stacked and combined with your existing bricks for tons of different construction possibilities.”
That brings me the next product we got to check out — Unique Shape Towers ($39.99). This set comes with 36 base plates in three 6″ shapes including triangles, half circles and squares and 60 2×2 stackers. These pieces are unique and fun. Incorporate them into other projects or use them on their own to build towers. Jackson used the triangles to make a giant spinning top! This wouldn’t even be possible with other baseplates because they wouldn’t have connector options on the bottom. I love how Jackson used pieces to hold the triangles together to make a new shape — creative!
Jackson also used the half circle plates and stackers to make a parking garage for his baseball stadium. Now he’s trying to figure out a way to get ramps from one level to the next so it’s functional.
Jackson loves math so when he saw the MathBriks and AlphaBriks set ($29.99) he had to have it. We were accidentally sent an old design and it was replaced with the newer version. Right away, Jackson observed the improvements and we were both impressed with the updated design. The new set comes with a drawstring pouch to hold the 200 small letter and number pieces. You can easily distinguish one set from the other because the number set is black and the letters set is light colored. We love the design of the letter and number pieces because they don’t have top or bottom edges making them easier to remove from the baseplate. No tool needed! Jackson likes to practice math facts and sometimes makes little notes on his board. It also makes a great sign or scoreboard for his stadium!
Strictly Briks pieces are compatible with other brands of plastic briks so they’ll fit right in to expand your current collection. Rather than being sold to build a particular item, Strictly Briks are meant for open ended play and your own creative designs and inspire kids to use their imaginations.

Do you consider construction toys as educational? I do! I always encourage construction toy play time. It might inspire one of my kids to become an engineer, architect or artist and it helps them develop creative and strategic thinking. Do you agree?
