Most people get the warm fuzzies when they think of Christmas but if you’re a mom you might simultaneously feel dread and anxiety. Moms typically bear the brunt of the responsibilities that come along with the most wonderful time of year — baking and decorating cookies, shopping for and wrapping all of the Christmas gifts, upholding all of the traditions, new and old including putting up with an elf guest or two for the holidays. It can be exhausting and overwhelming and I am willing to bet there’s not a mom out there that hasn’t thought a holiday get-away would be a dream come true. I know I have!
Beaches has you covered with location ideas in the infographic below but I’ve got a few ideas of my own to make a holiday get-away even more fun and possibly less stressful, because let’s be honest, moms do most of the planning and packing for vacations too!
Don’t Skip Gifts Altogether — kids look forward to Christmas morning more than any other day of the year. Consider packing a tiny tree (even if just a figurine) and having at least one wrapped gift to open per person. It can even be vacation themed — a new beach toy or snorkel gear, a winter scarf for a ski vacation or even a new camera to photograph your adventures! Have room service deliver hot cocoa on Christmas morning and enjoy a little moment of a traditional Christmas before setting off on your vacation adventures for the day.
Plan a Surprise Excursion — Plan a fun surprise day for the family. So many locations have once in a lifetime type adventures like swimming with dolphins or sharks. Go ziplining or parasailing together. Take a side trip to somewhere off the beaten path. Make memories! Excursions can come with a hefty price tag but this will be a Christmas gift they’ll never forget!
Pencil in Down Time — Don’t forget that the whole reason for this trip was to get away from the hustle and bustle. Definitely go on adventures but don’t forget to relax too. Set aside a day or two to just relax at the beach or pool side with a good book. Maybe even splurge on some spa time!
Whether you head off to the Caribbean or opt for a snowy getaway, a cruise, a theme park or somewhere more exotic, this will be an unforgettable holiday for the whole family.
