I’m always on the lookout for outdoor activities for my kids. The more I can get them outside, the better. I recently learned about a new toy called Yo Ring. It was invented by a high school student in Utah. He used a small metal ring to toss to his friends and challenged them to catch it on their finger. It quickly became a popular game and his friends would say “Yo, ring it up” when they wanted to play. That’s where the name Yo Ring comes from.
It sounds simple enough, so simple in fact that I was a little skeptical at first. It only took a minute or two to realize that this simple game is challenging and fun! I played with my three kids. I was the first one to “ring it up”, catching it on my pointer finger. My son quickly figured out that it’s all about the toss and once I was able to get down a good toss, the kids were all able to ring it up too! It takes practice but it’s really fun!
Once you’ve got the basic toss and catch down you can move on to more advanced play. The cool thing about YoRing is that there are no rules or boundaries to your creativity! You can bounce it off a wall, play it in a pool, come up with your own trick shots, try to catch a long toss, play it off your shoe, bounce it off your shirt like a trampoline and so much more!
Yo Ring doesn’t even have to be played outside. It’s also great if you are stuck inside! The ring is small and soft and not likely to cause much damage in the house. All ages and athletic abilities can play this game so it’s perfect for siblings and families to play together. It can also be played solo!
Yo Rings are sold individually for $7.25 or in a 3 pack for $19. Unlike the original, Yo Ring is made from silicone not metal and comes in red, yellow and blue. It’s small (about the size of your palm) and flat making it super portable. Put it in your pocket and pull it out whenever you need a little fun! It releases stress and encourages smiles from everyone.
This affordable toy makes a perfect stocking stuffer, Hanukkah gift, good report card reward or surprise gift from the Tooth Fairy! Just find a way to get it in the hands of your children and watch the magic of the Yo Ring!
