My husband took me to The Melting Pot once and it was one of my favorite dinners out ever. It’s all about the fondue and dipping various foods starting with a cheese fondue appetizer, cooking the main course in a broth and finishing with a chocolate fondue for dessert. It was so much fun! I really think my kids would love it too but it’s pretty pricey. With more time at home thanks to the pandemic, now is a great time to recreate the experience together at home as a family.
The New Fondue Cookbook features 100 recipes from Savory Ale-Spiked Cheddar Fondue to Sweet Chocolate Peanut Butter Fondue. The book starts with a “Fon-Do’s and Fon-Don’ts” section to get you started on the right path for health and safety. Then the fun begins. There are so many great recipes it might be hard to choose just one!
My favorite fondues are the appetizer and desserts so our plan will be to pick a cheese fondue paired with breads, veggies etc. and a chocolate fondue paired with brownies, marshmallows, cheesecake bites, fruit and maybe even some oddities like potato chips for fun.

After we get our feet wet with the basics, we can’t wait to try some of the other more unique recipes like Pizza Fondue. I think I might win the mom of the year award with this one! If you want to give it a try too, here is the recipe from the book:
Ingredients
1/3 lb ground beef
2T olive oil
1 medium yellow onion, peeled & chopped
3/4 cup whole milk
1 1/2 pounds Monterey jack cheese, shredded
1 Cup tomato sauce
1/4 tsp dried basil
1/4 tsp dried oregano
1/2 lb Italian salami, sliced
20 black olives
Pickles
Soft Italian breadsticks
Directions
- In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef. Drain and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, heat oil over medium-low heat. Add onion and saute until it is tender, about 5 minutes. Add milk and warm.
- Add cheese a handful at a time. Stir cheese continually in a sideways figure-eight pattern. Wait until cheese is completely melted before adding more. Don’t allow the fondue mixture to boil.
- When cheese is nearly melted, add tomato sauce and ground beef and heat through. turn up the heat until the fondue is just bubbling and starting to thicken. Add basil and oregano. Transfer to a fondue pot and set over the heat source on low heat.
- Serve with salami, olives, pickles, and breadsticks for dipping.
