Cold and flu season has arrived. Are you prepared? No matter how hard we try to protect our families from illness, it’s almost inevitable that someone will come down with something so it’s always best to be ready! Here are a few ways I prepare:
- Reminders — it’s a good time to remind the kiddos about proper hand washing. Always wash before eating and after using the restroom. I tell my kids to sing the Happy Birthday song to make sure they are washing long enough and remind them to wash the tops of their hands as well as in between their fingers.
- Hand Sanitizer — I buy the mini hand sanitizers that can be attached to the kid’s backpacks. They are only about $1 and can be refilled. Sometimes this is easier for using before lunch at school or whenever they might not be able to wash. The fun packaging and fragrances help my kids remember to use it.
- Tissues — I always stock up on the mini packs of tissues and encourage my kids to use them frequently when they have a cold rather than using their arm or sleeve (eww!)
- Stock up on meds — There’s nothing worse than having to run out in middle of the night when a child wakes up sick! Make sure you have the products you need in your medicine cabinet before illness strikes!
When sick gets real, Pfizer pediatric products are my go-to solutions including Children’s Advil®, Children’s Robitussin® and Children’s Dimetapp® to help relieve the yuckiest symptoms.
- Children’s Advil® Suspension — This is the product we use the most frequently. It provides fever relief while also easing the aches and pains associated with the common cold and flu including headaches and toothaches. This product also helps my kids with the “growing pain” the tend to get in their legs at night. I love that my kids take this product without complaint because it comes in several great tasting flavors including Sugar-free Dye-free Berry, Bubble Gum, Grape, Blue Raspberry, Fruit and Dye-Free White Grape flavors. There’s also Infants’ Advil® White Grape that comes with a syringe for easy dosing for children 6-23 months.
- Children’s Dimetapp® Cold & Cough — This product is designed for ages 6 and up and helps with those annoying stuffy and runny nose symptoms while also working to relieve cough. This one comes in a great tasting grape flavor.
- Children’s Robitussin® DM Day/Night Pack (Children’s Robitussin® Cough & Chest Congestion for ages 4+ and Children’s Robitussin® Nighttime Cough Long-Acting for ages 6+) — I love this combo pack. It’s nice having options. The non-drowsy daytime formula helps break up chest congestion, while the long-acting nighttime formula relieves coughs and runny noses to help kids get a good night’s sleep.
It is important to remember to always read and keep the cartons for complete warnings and dosing information on Pfizer Pediatric products and to use as directed.
