We waited a long time to become pet owners. We really weighed out our options to find the best fit for our family. While we love dogs, we knew we wouldn’t be be able to give one the best home possible due to sports and travel commitments. After much thought we decided to adopt a cat. Frieda came into our life almost two years ago. She was a young adult cat that we immediately fell in love with at the adoption center. We don’t know much about her background but her actions tell us that she was likely an indoor/outdoor cat. She tries to sneak out whenever the opportunity presents itself which sends my kids into utter panic. She is microchipped but that won’t protect her from cars, coyotes or other dangers. Despite our best efforts, Frieda sometimes manages to escape for a little outdoor exploring. She usually doesn’t go far and I am able to get her back to safety rather quickly. For peace of mind though, we are thinking of investing in a GPS tracking collar for her.
I like to do a bit of research before making purchases, especially for tech type devices. Reading user reviews and comparing different types of devices is really helpful when trying to make a smart buying decision. Since most of these types of collars are designed for dogs, I needed all the info I could get. There are so many things to take into consideration including:
- Cost
- Size
- Subscription based or not
- Battery Life
- Charger type
- Range
We are leaning toward the Whistle 3. It has a lot of great reviews, seems light enough/small enough for a cat and has a long battery life. It’s a little on the more expensive side at around $100 and it is subscription based which I had hoped to avoid. We haven’t made the leap yet but this is looking like one of our better options. Do you have any experience with GPS tracking collars for pets? What would YOU recommend? We love our Frieda Kitty and want to keep her as safe as possible!
