Kodak, who has some staggering calculations on the cost of printer ink (check it out in the JBJ widget in our side bar) and JuiceBoxJungle sponsored me to write this post about what I’d do with a surprise extra $100 if someone handed it to me next month. As much as I’d love to say A) do something fun with my family or B) Donate it to a good cause, I have to be honest and say I would actually put it towards our insurance deductible. I’m going to go all out and tell you a very true story about my stupidity.
Last week, a very busy week, I might add, I drove my car into my house. Yes. You read that right. I’ll give you the longish version. One morning while I was leaving with my two small children (ages 1 & 2) to Target for some diapers I almost backed into the UPS man who visits me several times per week. I was distracted by an argument I’d just had with the Hubs over disciplining our oldest. I got out of my car and accepted the package and as the brown truck drove away I looked down to realize that the package wasn’t even mine. I grumbled about adding another item to my to-do list, set the package on my porch and hurried to Target so I could get back and feed my kids before I had to head to work.
The next day I noticed that the package was actually addressed to someone I knew a few blocks over. I didn’t have time to deliver it before work so I left it on my porch again. Later that day I left work early due to a strained lower back. As I pulled into my driveway, I saw the package and thought I’d just grab it and run it over to my neighbor. Apparently I forgot to put my car in park and as I started to get out, my car started rolling. In my hurry to put on the break, my foot hit the very edge of it and it slipped off and hit the gas.
We now owe $1500 in deductibles on our Homeowners and Auto insurance. My car is in the shop and my two year old asks me every day “Mommy, why did you break the house?” Luckily, no one was hurt and my kids were not in the car with me.
So, if I got handed an extra $100, I’d put it directly towards my stupidity bill. I won $50 at work party on Saturday (perhaps my luck is changing?) and that went directly towards this bill too.
In my defense, I was under a lot of stress at the time and had a lot on my mind. I had just taken on some extra work (when I was already struggling to keep up with my already full plate) when I found out that I am pregnant with our third child! Although unexpected, we are looking forward to completing our family of FIVE!
What would YOU do if someone handed YOU $100 next month?
Sorry that happened to you! If I got handed $100 I would pay it towards my medical bills.
oh no, sorry that happpened. My hubby did that a few years okay. He actually started out by crashing the car door because he forgot to close the car door all the way and it flew open when he was pulling out of the garage. Then he pulled into the house and ran upstairs to tell me and crashed the car into the house.(he forgot to put it in park too). When he called insurance, they asked if his wife did it! We had to pay two deductables…yikes!
If I had a extra hundred, I would pay it towards credit card debt!
If I had an extra $100, I would buy my hubby a plane ticket to go see his mom. Since we now live in Florida and she in Virginia, they don’t see each other very often and I know it’s hard on both of them, but money for travel is VERY hard to come by.
