Licorice was a memorable part of my childhood. My mom loved red licorice. I remember getting the long “red ropes” from the skating rink. My dad on the other hand had a love of black licorice that I inherited. The stronger the black licorice flavor the better! Not all licorice is created equally of course. In my opinion, the Wiley Wallaby brand stands out above the rest for a number of reasons.
The creators of Wiley Wallaby were tired of eating licorice that was too chewy with not enough flavor. They believed they could create a better licorice, and they did! If you are looking for licorice that is soft, chewy and bursting with flavor, look no further than Wiley Wallaby!
Wiley Wallaby has also taken their ingredients into consideration. They’re products are made with no dairy or fat. They’ve even kicked high fructose corn syrup to the curb in all of their fruit flavors! Their licorice is Vegan and Kosher and only sustainable palm oils are used.
My family tried Wiley Wallaby Licorice in Classic Red and Organic Bites as well as Classic Black and Organic Bites. The Classic Red comes in chunks that are about two bite size. They are perfectly soft and chewy with a fresh flavor. If you had asked me what flavor red licorice is I probably would have replied licorice flavor. I had no idea that it was supposed to be strawberry! So for me, this doesn’t taste like “classic” flavor — it’s better!
The organic version has smaller one bite sized pieces. To me, these taste more like a fruit snack than licorice. They have a different texture than the Classic Red.
The black licorice is where it really gets good. Classic Black is the perfect amount of chewy with a fairly strong black licorice flavor that I love. In my opinion it’s the best black licorice around. The Organic Bites are slightly milder in flavor and have that different texture that seems less licorice-like to me. It still tastes great though!
Wiley Wallaby is a family owned, third generation company that not only makes the classics but has taken things a step further and made licorice in other gourmet flavors including Mixed Berry, Tropical, Green Apple, Watermelon and more. My kids and I are really excited to find these flavors and give them a try too!
