Is there a woman in your life that stands out above the rest and fills you with inspiration? Yahoo! Shine wants to celebrate the lovely ladies who are changing lives and the world around them by doing extraordinary things every day. You can give these inspiring women the recognition they deserve by nominating them for Women Who Shine. The woman who receives the most votes by the end of the program will win a $10,000 cash prize! (see terms and conditions) Meet Rachel, my nomination and a woman who shines inside and out:
Rachel is part of the North Sound Birth Collective, a group of women dedicated to educating, inspiring and empowering women as they go through the pregnancy and birth process. She’s an amazing support person that is always ready and willing to help a mom or mom-to-be with guidance and advice. She has even gone as far as donating 150 oz her own breast milk to a mom who needed supplementation and wanted to avoid formula. Rachel is passionate about the things she believes in and isn’t afraid to voice her opinion. These traits make her a great advocate when it comes to helping a woman stand up for her choices during the birthing process. At the same time, Rachel’s sense of humor eases tension during stressful moments and her compassion, empathy and experience make her an ideal birth coach.
Being a doula is a huge commitment. It requires being available at a moments notice regardless of any other plans you may have. It means being away from your family during the day or night and potentially days at a time. I’ve witnessed Rachel giving of herself fully — her commitment to being a doula is more than just a job to her. She was put on this earth to do great things and she strives to do just that. I have no doubt she will accomplish them by creating more awareness about what women’s bodies are capable off, lowering the incidence of cesarean births and supporting breast feeding amongst advocacy for other important women’s issues. Rachel is definitely a woman who shines! If you agree, you can vote for Rachel here.
The Yahoo Women Who Shine recognition program is different from many other programs you see because these are real, everyday women, not high-profile women or celebrities. These women live in your community and inspire others with their achievements They are nominated by the women whose lives they’ve touched and it’s Shine’s readers (you!), not an editorial staff, who decides who wins — so get to voting!
