Jardine has expanded their recall on cribs to include the following models sold between January 2009 and January 2009: Berkley, Capri, Hilton, Olympia, Positano, Spindle, and Windsor. The crib we purchased for my son in 2007 was part of this recall. Mindy posted about the original recall last summer and I wrote about my problems with the crib HERE.
The process of obtaining a replacement crib is quite inconvenient. First you must crawl underneath your crib and locate a label to make sure your crib is indeed part of the recall. While you are under there looking for the manufactured date and model number be sure to note where the crib was made or you’ll have to crawl back under for a second look. You will need this info to submit a claim online. Once you have submitted your form you will receive a packet via FedEx with instructions and a pre-paid envelope. You will mail back the brackets that hold the mattress in place thus making your crib useless while you wait for the voucher they will send you once they receive the parts. You should receive your voucher in 7-10 business days. Your voucher is only good at Toys R Us and Babies R Us for the highest amount that was charged for your crib within those dates specified above. If the price of the cribs has gone up, you must pay the difference. If you chose a crib for a lesser value you will not receive the difference. The voucher is good for a crib only.
My daughter is only one month old and sleeps in a bassinet in our room. She only sits in her boppy in the crib during the day if I need somewhere to set her down for a few minutes. The process I just explained will only be a slight inconvenience for me but what about those whose babies actually sleep in their cribs? What are they supposed to do in the meantime? A friend of mine called Jardine and asked this very question. Their answer: You the option of purchasing a new crib out of pocket and submitting the receipt for reimbursement. This would be the easiest way to go if you have the money to do so.

Buying a crib is the one thing I’ve been avoiding in putting together the nursery for our little one. Every time I find a crib I think I like the thing gets recalled! I’m considering letting the baby sleep in a dresser drawer instead! (Not really!) Yikes!
