I just got back from a whirlwind trip to the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. 3M Company invited me to attend to learn about their new wearable respiratory monitoring technology. My flight was delayed 12 hours but when I finally arrived and checked in at the Mandalay Bay I was so glad I made the trip.
After a long day of travel, this hallway looked extra long, but when I got to the very end of it there was a set of double doors with my room number on it. I was surprised to discover a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom suite that was AMAZING!
There were SIX televisions in the suite, including one INSIDE each bathroom mirror — it was the coolest thing! To say I enjoyed my room is an understatement! Since it was late, I went to bed so I’d be ready to meet the 3M team for breakfast.
The next morning, I met up with Shannon and Frank from The Mommy Files and DaddleDo, Pam from Simply Southern Mom and Sadie from Slap Dash Mom. We took a stretch limo over to the Venetian Hotel. We met the 3M team at a trends breakfast event hosted by Wired Magazine. Over breakfast, Wired Magazine gave a presentation on several different technology topics including automation, which was quite interesting!
After breakfast and some mingling, we walked across the street to the Mirage Hotel for a private, in-suite meeting with the 3M team to learn all about their new wearable technology. We even got a sneak peek at the device itself, which wasn’t available for viewing at the CES show. The device and app will be available this summer.
3M Company designed this technology to help users monitor their breathing and offer valuable insight to potentially predict and improve their quality of breathing. The device is especially helpful to those who suffer from asthma and allergies. Did you know that approximately 24 million Americans have asthma, and an estimated 50 million are affected by nasal allergies? That’s a lot of people this new product can help!

This new wearable technology offers coaching and education to its users, so they can gain better control of their breathing during daily activities. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to pinpoint your triggers so you could avoid them? The new 3M technology will help you do exactly that.
Not only does the device track your personal respiratory patterns to detect changes in breathing, it also correlates your breathing “events” with environmental factors such as location, weather and air quality. These insights provide valuable data to help you learn and understand your triggers to help you manage your symptoms.
The key features of the app and device include:
- Measurement of breath quality and changes in real time based on environment, activity and health
- Location-based forecasts, maps and alerts to track changes in weather, allergens and air quality
- Personalized coaching and insights around your unique set of triggers and sensitivities
- Guidance to reduce flare ups by avoiding trigger-rich environments, learning to best manage symptoms and receiving notifications when identified triggers are present
- Allow users to customize forecast alerts based on their triggers
- Up-to-the-minute weather, allergen and air quality alerts
- Suite of analysis providing users with insights on where and when events occurred and the triggers that were present during those events
- Events and triggers can be visualized in a timeline or map view
Luckily I don’t have any major respiratory issues, but I do have allergies and often cannot figure out what sets them off. I actually noticed upon arriving back home from Las Vegas that I seemed to have more nasal congestion where I live. I’m sure I could learn a lot more about my respiratory health using the 3Mrespiratory monitoring solution. I’d also be very curious how different things affect my children’s breathing, since they seem to have inherited my allergy issues and we haven’t nailed down exactly what they are allergic to.
I’m pretty excited about this new technology and how it can help people manage their respiratory issues. Breathing is important! Life is better when we breathe easy and users of this new device will gain freedom and empowerment so they can enjoy their day-to-day lives.
After our meeting we headed back to CES to visit the 3M booth and had an opportunity to chat more with the team. We took a survey and offered our personal thoughts on the branding of this new product. I’m excited to see the final product when it’s released!
A lot of care went into the design of the wearable so that the user will be comfortable and get the best results. I love that it is water resistant. I heard that device has actually survived a trip through the washing machine – that’s pretty impressive!
After some free time we met with the 3M team for a wonderful private dinner at RX Boiler Room, located at the Mandalay Bay Hotel. The food and service were almost as fantastic as the company! I had a great time chatting with everyone while eating delicious food that was also beautifully prepared. I felt truly spoiled on this trip! We were definitely well taken care of!
During our free time we were able to check other booths at the show and see some pretty cool new technology in all different categories. One of the coolest things I saw was this mirror that applies different makeup looks to your face. We were walking by and I glanced over and was wearing bright blue eye shadow and had some pretty amazing fake eye lashes! There were more subtle looks to choose from as well and it was really fun to play with!
Do you recognize this guy or the one in the background? We ran into LMFAO at CES! I had so much fun during my visit, I can’t pick a favorite highlight but this one was up there on the list.
The new wearable technology and app, will be available for use on your mobile device this summer. Be sure to check it out!

I’ve got horrible allergies and this device sounds so cool!! Can’t wait til it comes out 🙂
The innovations that 3M consistently comes up with are amazing. I can see the elderly, care givers and asthmatics really benefiting from this new innovation.
