There are so many tips for editing and creating beautiful digital photo projects. Here are some to name a few:
1. Stay Organized! Don’t leave images sitting on your camera. Try to upload them to your computer after a photo session or event. Label them in a folder with the date and/or short description so you’ll be able to find them easily when you need them. If you have the time, try to do the basic editing such as cropping and fixing red eye immediately. Delete blurry or bad shots you know you won’t be using. All of these things will make it easier when you are ready to create a photo project.
2. If you want to create some amazing images, find some online tutorials and use software like Adobe Photoshop Elements. This program is so much fun to tinker with. I had it before I got my Macbook and made my son’s first birthday party invitations with it. They came out SO cute and I was able to print them myself and save some money. I wish I had it on this computer to share with you! I really wanted to get into digital scrapbooking and I learned a few really cool tips and techniques using this program online.
3. Try different things. Make a copy of a photo and play around with it. Try it in black & white. Try it color tinted. Or my favorite, make it black and white with one other color. I edited a photo of my son when he was a baby making his sweater vest which was blue and his eyes which are also blue, stand out from a black and white photo.
4. Ask for help. Some editing can get complicated. I have a few friends who have taken Photoshop classes so I ask them for tips and pointers. They are always happy to point me in the right direction.
5. Pick the Right Photos- When creating a project, make sure to pick photos that work well together. I like to make calendars for Christmas gifts. I try to match the month with corresponding pictures of my kids. For example, for December, I’d have a picture of them building a snowman. For photo books, make sure to build them in chronological order! Put older pictures in front of the book with the newest pictures in the back so you can see the progression of your kids as they get older.
