One of the things we always do before taking a road trip is check our tires. Many people think that all-season tires can deliver the same performance as a winter tire, but this is not true. With the winter season upon us, it’s important to make sure your tires have superior traction for your holiday road trips. The last thing you want is to be broken down on the side of the road when you should be at Grandma’s eating Thanksgiving turkey!
To be honest, road trips are not my thing. I despise being in the car. It makes my back hurt and my stomach queasy. That being said, I still like to travel and with three kiddos it’s usually by car. My most favorite recent road trip was just this past summer. We drove about 6 hours to the Oregon coast to go camping and 4-wheeling. It’s actually an annual trip but this was the best one yet because this year our kids were old enough to make conversation with. Jackson is only three but he had LOTS of questions on our ride home. Little minds get busy when they are trying to stay awake. You know, questions about EVERYTHING. My husband and I weren’t really prepared for the onslaught of questions so our answers may not have been the most scientific- some may have even been made up! Jackson was particularly interested in the moon which happened to be visible during the day on our way home. It was fun pointing out different land marks and just making general conversation with the kids about everything we were seeing.
We also like to listen to music in the car and the kids have their favorite songs. The cutest thing is when we turn on California Girls by Katy Perry. At the part that says “put your hands up” both McKinley who is 1 and Jackson throw their hands in the air and wave them around. It’s so funny to see them do this because it’s something they came up with on their own just by hearing the lyrics.
Even though I don’t like traveling by car, I relished our time spent together on this trip and look forward to future trips. I can’t wait to see what sorts of conversations will come up in the future and which songs will become our travelling soundtrack.
