My three year old uses my iPhone nearly every day in some manner or another. We have kids movies loaded onto it, apps of preschool games, storybooks and more. Its a nice way to keep him busy (and quiet) when I need a little bit of the break (hey- he’s 3 and in the non-stop talking, question asking stage). I rarely turn the television on for my kids and I was thinking one day that they might like Sesame Street so I pulled it up on YouTube. BAD.IDEA. Anyone can put anything on YouTube and the words I heard coming from my iPhone as my son was watching “Sesame Street” were NOT from the same Sesame Street on public broadcasting of my own youth. Someone had dubbed over it. I took it away immediately and have since banned YouTube watching on my phone. When I was offered the chance to review Mobile Mum, I knew it was right up our alley and that my kids would surely enjoy it.
Mobile Mum is a subscription app for iPhones, iPads and Androids specifically designed for preschoolers. It is also available online. It features the best in kids TV programming such as Pocoyo, Sid the Science Kid and Dive Ollie Dive. Future releases of Mobile Mum will include games as well which are currently only available on the iPad version.
Mobile Mum is very simple to use. There are three kid-friendly buttons “new new” “more more” and “again again”. New new gives you a random program. From there, if you choose more more you’ll get more episodes from the same program. Again again plays the same episode over again. I love how easy it is to use but on the other hand, there is no menu or anything so if Jackson says “Mom, I want Pocoyo” we just have to keep hitting the new new button until we get lucky and land on Pocoyo. Overall, I think it’s a great app. I can let my kids watch what have become their favorite shows on my phone without the fear of the unknown that I had with YouTube. I’m looking forward to the addition of the game feature because I think that will add a lot to it, giving it more value.
