

I recently had the opportunity to try a few items from Rigoni di Asiago including Dolcedì, a natural sweetener, Fiordifrutta, a natural fruit spread and Nocciolata, an organic chocolate-hazelnut spread. For over 100 years, the Rigoni family who lives in the Altopiano di Asiago, a mountain plateau in North Italy famous for its sunny climate, meadows and woodlands has been making honey and jam in their little corner of paradise and they’ve mastered their craft.
I started out by trying the spreads on shortbread thumbprint cookies. Each jar of Fiordifrutta contains over 3 pound of ripened, non-GMO organic fruit. The exclusive room temperature production process used to make Fiordifrutta helps preserve the nutrients and flavors of the fresh picked fruit and the recipe has 30% fewer calories than most other brands. Fiordifrutta is available in a wide range of flavors from classic including Raspberry, Strawberry, and Wild Blueberry to exotic Pink Grapefruit, Black Currant, Seville Orange, and Pomegranate, to name a few. I also tried the Nocciolata on the shortbread cookies and it’s delicious! Nocciolata is a better-for-you, higher quality chocolate hazelnut spread that is completely free of GMO’s, preservatives, colors, additives and artificial sweeteners. It combines hazelnuts, cocoa, cocoa butter, natural vanilla extract, raw cane sugar and skimmed milk for a smooth, creamy spread.
Nocciolata also uses cold-pressed sunflower oil so it’s free from hydrogenated fats and contains far less sugar than other brands. Each batch takes 36 hours of artisanal preparation to develop its rich and complex flavor and easy-to-spread texture. Nocciolata is perfect for snacking, a wonderful addition to breakfast spreads, an alternative to other nut butters, and is a wonderful accompaniment for breads, croissants, crepes, and fruit.
Next I made Energy Balls using Dolcedi in place of honey and it worked surprisingly well! Dolcedì is the first sweetener made from 100% organic apples and it naturally has a low glycemic index making it a great alternative to sugar with 25% fewer calories. This all natural liquid sweetener has a texture like honey and tastes very similar in my opinion. Rigoni di Asiago Dolcedì is made from the concentrated and filtered sugar extracted from organic apples. It is certified USDA organic, non-GMO, gluten-free, vegan, and STAR-KOSHER.
Dolcedì can be used any way you would use traditional table sugar or honey and in the same proportions; one teaspoon of sugar equals one teaspoon of Dolcedì. Its neutral flavor enhances the taste of food and drinks without altering them. Dolcedì is also perfectly soluble in both cold and hot drinks and can be enjoyed with pancakes, on yogurt, in fruit salad, and in baking.
