It’s been awhile since I’ve downloaded some new books for my kids on my iPhone. As a result, they’ve been playing more games rather than reading. It was time for some fresh content. I downloaded Ann Can’t Sleep, an animated book from Light Sleepers. It was an instant hit. The illustrations are cute and colorful and even though the format was a little different than what my kids are used to, they didn’t have a problem using the app. The simple instructions are visual for kids who can’t read on their own yet. A picture of a finger pops up to tell kids they need to tap the screen on the words for the book to play. A page is read, then a short animation follows.

The story is about a little girl named Ann who can’t seem to fall asleep. She carefully selects a companion from her shelf it hopes it with soothe her to sleep but each one takes her on an imaginary adventure that won’t let her mind rest. Eventually she selects the perfect toy to help her drift off to sleep.
Ann’s collection of toys is adorable and I love the selections of music that play along with each animation. My kids enjoyed the book, as did I. I liked the original story line, the illustrations and animations, and the music. The whole thing was put together really well. I’d definitely recommend this app. It’s available for purchase in the iTunes App store and Android Market for $2.99. You can check out a short clip of the story in the video below. See for yourself what a cute story it is!
