Babalu, Inc. is a company that was launched in 2009 with the introduction of FeltTales. In 2009 they acquired WJ Fantasy, a 25 year old toy company that specialized in a selection of nesting blocks, toys, advent calendars and children’s books. The majority of Babalu toys are priced under $25 with many under $20- perfect for gift giving this holiday season! Babalu sent me a couple of toys for my review.
Puzzle blocks are nine 1 1/2″ cubes that that create six challenging puzzles. Housed in a sturdy box with a full color “answer sheet” and available in several different themes, these block sets are a perfect activity for children ages 4 and up.
The monster set is especially fun and challenging. Jackson is 3 1/2 so a bit under the recommended age for these puzzles. We tried several different techniques in putting them together and enjoyed spending quality time playing. One way we tried the puzzle was for me to turn all of the pieces to the correct side to form one puzzle and use the “answer sheet” to help. Another time I had Jackson stack the puzzle right on top of the “answer sheet” by matching. Then I let him play on his own. I could almost see the gears turning in his head as he tried to figure it out. He had fun and really enjoyed the monster theme but wasn’t quite able to grasp how this puzzle works yet. I’m sure he’ll master it soon enough….
Block puzzles are available in “Monster“, “Fairies” and “Butterflies“. Also available in the same cute, perfectly sized boxes are Noah’s Friends Match Ups, Furry Friends Dominos and World Friends Dominos. Each of these contains 28 2″ x 4″ tiles and an instruction sheet. The dominos teach matching and counting while the Match Ups, for a little bit younger kids, teaches matching and naming (of different types of animals)
I love the size of these games and puzzles. They aren’t too small to play with or too large to store easily. I also love the price. At only $8 each for the puzzles and $6 each for the dominos and matching game, these are perfect for birthday gifts, Christmas gifts or just to add to your game closet.
