We are a very busy family of five involved in sports with all three children. It’s very difficult to carve out one-on-one time for our kids so when it happens, it’s almost magical! My middle child, my daughter McKinley (age 7) seems to be the one that benefits the most from individual attention. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to take her back to school shopping at Capital Mall in Olympia, WA. The stars aligned and I was able to get a sitter for my other two children so McKinley and I could make a day of it. McKinley loves to shop, just like her mama so this was the perfect outing for us and we had a great time!
Capital Mall has all of our favorite stores like Justice, Children’s Place, Gymboree, TJMaxx, Old Navy, Macy’s and JCPenney. We arrived right at 10 am when stores were opening and got down to business. We had $300 to spend and 3 kids to shop for so we had our eyes peeled for great sales!
My plan of attack went right out the door as soon as McKinley saw the Justice store. It’s her absolute favorite and she had already been picking out her favorite things from a catalog at home.
She was dead set on a messenger style “back pack” with the letter “M” on it and I had already promised her she could have it. She found what she was looking for right away and it was on sale for $20. She also picked out a dress and a pink plaid shirt since she’s decided it’s what cowgirls wear and she wants to be one someday.
Next we headed across the street to TJMaxx. Even though this isn’t inside the mall, it’s still part of Capital Mall. I love shopping at TJMaxx because I always find great deals on name brands. I was on the hunt for Nike and Under Armour for my son and although I didn’t find anything in his size this time, I did find some great deals on Seahawks gear! Jerseys were only $35! Tees were $10 and I also picked up a really nice quarter zip for only $20.
From there we headed back inside the mall and stopped at JcPenney, Children’s Place and Gymboree. We didn’t find anything we needed at these stores this time but had fun looking around before stopping in at Old Navy. This is where we scored the majority of our deals! I got some base layer basics for my son to wear under his shorts and tees — a must have for boys that insist on wearing shorts year round! My girls got shoes, dresses, tees, leggings and jeans. They are pretty set for the start of the school year! Plus, we earned $60 in Old Navy Super Cash!
We were a few hours into our shopping and getting hungry so we headed across the parking lot to Red Robin, one of our favorite places to eat. McKinley loves the chicken strips and so do I! I like mine buffalo style though. We both got strawberry lemonade and campfire sauce for our fries too. It was nice to take a quick break from shopping and re-group. We checked our list and headed back out after stuffing ourselves with a delicious lunch! Red Robin isn’t the only choice for a meal! There’s a great selection for meals and snacks at Capital Mall. See the full list here.
Jackson still needed a few things so we headed to Macy’s where we found Nike brand on sale for 25% off. Sweet! Just what we were looking for! We also nabbed a long sleeved Under Armour shirt on clearance for just $5!
