When my kids aren’t at games or practices, they tend to have their head stuck in a screen. I try to find other fun and interesting options for them. One of my favorites is Barron’s Books. We LOVE all of their activity books but they have other great titles as well. This year my kids got books in their Easter baskets and they loved them!
My son got “A Robot World”:
Robots are everywhere—in our homes, at work, at play, at war, and even helping us explore space. This photo-packed book explores the rise of robots, from the first automata (lifelike mechanical figures that acted like humans or animals) to the latest AIs (Artificial Intelligence robots). Learn some bot basics, how robots on the move know where to go, sociable robots with facial expressions, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) that chase hurricanes, nanobots that can be injected into a person’s bloodstream to fight diseases, and much more. As you flip through the pages of this bold book, you’ll discover the many different designs that have captured our imaginations and led to amazing developments in technology. You can even learn how to build your own robot! (Ages 7+)
Right away he discovered there was a robot they had discussed in class, plus a whole lot more to explore! Filled with vibrant pictures and interesting info, this book really held the attention of my 10 year old.
My youngest got “100 Screen-Free Ways to Beat Boredom!”
Free yourself and your kids from the tyranny of the screen with 100 ways to beat the “I’m bored” monster. You don’t need lots of special materials, expensive toys, or planning to have a great time sans screens when you:
- Have an Indoor Picnic
- Start an Herb Garden
- Go on a Car Scavenger Hunt
- Build an Obstacle Course
- Make Napkin Roses
- Create an Artful Sandwich, and lots more
This is actually a great book for all of my kids and something I can direct them to when they need ideas. It’s full of fun things they can do together and will be a lifesaver this summer!
My oldest daughter is very creative and loves to write. She got “My Story, My Self”:
Tune in. Turn off. Chill out! This keepsake journal created especially for girls helps you tap into your strengths, gain insights into your thoughts, and build confidence in the girl you’ve already become. You’ll discover new ways to digitally detox and become more mindful as you fill in the beautiful pages of this book. Every day, you’ll be prompted to fill in the blanks that tell your story—and get you in touch with your truest self. What’s your perfect start to the day? What is your favorite hobby? How do you like to relax? What goals would you like to achieve? Dream, plan, and track who you are right now—and shape the person you hope to be in the future. Inspirational quotes, practical tips, and interesting hacks will make this book a joy to open, and a treasure trove of information to look back on in the coming years. (Ages 10+)
Here’s a look inside:
She loves filling it in and the prompts give her lots of ideas to write about. It couldn’t be more perfect for her!
I haven’t come across a Barron’s Book I didn’t like. They make great gifts for any occasion and I highly recommend them!
