My kids need things to do over Christmas break or this mama might lose her mind. My kids tend to fight when they get bored and get cranky and restless when they spend too much time on screens. I always try to give my kids Christmas gifts that will give them creative ways to stay busy when they have extra time. Barron’s Books always comes through the BEST books that do just that!
Legos have always been my go-to boredom buster but if I just say “go play Legos” I’m often met with groans. They really enjoy building but they sometimes need a little guidance or encouragement. Kevin Hall comes to the rescue with his unofficial guides to making things from classic Lego bricks. Each book contains 30 builds with directions to make themed projects. His latest includes pets and robots. My kids are going to love these!
“Each project is a great way to test out unusual building techniques or to mix up pieces from existing kits that have already been broken up. Follow the instructions or go off in your own direction—and let your imagination be your guide!
Many of the designs in these books use fewer than 100 bricks, so you don’t need a lot to get started. With even more descriptions, pictures, and clear, step-by-step instructions than ever before, you’ll find lots of fun ways to utilize those extra bricks.”
My girls have been into rock painting lately and can always use some cool ideas and extra inspiration. Rock Art Critters offers:
- Tips for finding and identifying rocks and preparing them for paint
- Techniques for creating the perfect “rock” from polymer clay
- A guide to gathering tools, from paint, pencils, and brushes to wood filler and varnish
- Dozens of projects for bringing pebbles to life with personality and style
They’ll learn to paint the cutest things! Projects include woodland creatures (foxes and squirrels), exotic animals (tigers and pandas), things with wings (birds, bees, and butterflies), and other fun critters. The book offers clear step-by-step instructions, lots of variations, and loads of inspiration. All it takes is a little bit of paint and some brushes to bring rocks to life.
