We’ve had some readers express interest in learning about blogging so we’ve decided to make it a weekly series on Mommies with Cents! If you are interested in learning how to start your own blog or to cultivate and grow the one you have, we welcome you to join us!
Today’s questions is “How do you get companies to know about your blog so you can host giveaways?”
This is a great question and one we don’t have a complete answer to. It wasn’t long after we started blogging that we began receiving press releases for all sorts of things in our inbox. It took us quite awhile to figure out what to do these sorts of emails. We started replying to them and offering to review the products being pitched. We were surprised by the response we got. Many of them were happy to provide a product to review and another to giveaway but you never know unless you ask! You really have nothing to lose.
You can also contact companies you are interested in working with by sending them an email, introducing yourself, telling them what you have to offer and what you’d like in return. Be prepared to answer questions about your blog stats including your monthly traffic, page rank, number of followers and subscribers etc. Put together a document with all of this info and use it as you see fit.
When Mindy and I started out we had no idea what we were doing. We learned as we went and even though it’s been a few years, there is still so much to learn! We are learning new things all of the time and it’s so much fun! We’ve had help along the way and we want to pay it forward. If you have a question you’d like to see answered here, we invite you to fill out the form below.

So, e-mails about new products just came to you because of the blog, without signing up for anything?
Thank you for these great tutorials! I love this series!

Yes, we didn’t sign up for anything and we had no idea how these companies or PR reps found us. Making an email specifically for the blog is a must and having a way for readers to contact you visible on the blog is a good idea.. We recommend Gmail and will probably have a post coming up in the series as to why Gmail makes the best sense.
