Kids need healthy ways to express themselves. Two crafty moms (Sondra & Wendy) who also happen to be sisters noticed the trend in chalkboard surfaces and had an idea. The wanted to put a chalkboard surface on tee shirts so that kids could create a new shirt every day. They wanted the surface to be durable enough to handle the brightly colored and easy to use chalk markers and to stand up to machine washing. The moms pulled it off and Chalk of the Town was born.
Now kids can wear their own art and create their own messages with pride with 100% cotton re-markable, erasable chalkboard tee shirts or a tote bag! Once the ink dries, the design stays on until you are ready to erase. We gave the tote bag a try. It came with two chalk markers and an eraser cloth.
Stencils and additional markers can be purchased separately and we got some of these as well. The markers work much better than traditional chalk. The colors are brighter and the “ink” glides on smoothly. The stencils have a lot of really cute designs that you can mix and match.
I tried out the Sweets stencil. It was easy to use and the designs came out pretty well. The markers can smear a little until they dry so you have to be careful. Next came the real test. I was pretty skeptical that these bright colors would wipe cleanly away but they did! I just got the eraser cloth damp and wiped my design away. No smears, nothing. Just a fresh blank slate for my daughter to express her own creative talents.
Parker loves the Washington Huskies so she found a how to draw video for a husky dog and went to work. About an hour later I was surprised to see that she had filled the heart with all the other things she loves as well. She did it all on her own with no help!
I think it came out really cute! She used a lid of a water bottle to make her soccer ball circle so it’s pretty big but it’s probably what she loves the most so it’s appropriate! We both had a lot of fun with this Chalk of the Town tote bag and it’s got PLENTY of life left for even more fun and creativity! I’m thinking the tees and totes would make great birthday gifts for just about any kid! The tees come in different colors and designs like unicorns, hearts and speech bubbles.
