Affix Youth Booster Seat
My youngest just turned four. It breaks my heart a little. I always tell her she needs to stay little and I hold her like a baby in my arms and snuggle her tight as she promises me she will. At her well child checkup today she measured in the 15th percentile, so I guess she’s keeping her promise. Little it is. There are some milestones that are hard to swallow as a mom. We want to savor every moment and it can be hard sometimes realizing you can’t go back. Back to the time they need you to kiss their boo-boos. Back to the time your lullabies soothe them to sleep in middle of the night. Back to the time when they NEED you.
On the other hand, there are a few milestones that you will jump for joy over. First steps are bittersweet but the last time you put your toddler in a diaper? That’s the milestone you’ve been dreaming of achieving! Another such milestone for me is the graduation to a booster seat. I had three kids pretty close together and leaving the house was a challenge for a long time. It was a workout just wrangling them up and getting everyone buckled in! This week my youngest graduated to a booster seat. This makes traveling infinitely easier. Booster seats are much easier to install. We have 3 vehicles so we play musical chairs a lot. Not having to deal with the hassle of moving heavy carseats anymore is a relief!
We got the Graco Affix Youth Booster Seat. My older kids are in booster seats that are just the base without a back. This particular model has the high back but it can be removed once the child no longer needs it ( must be 40 – 100 lbs and 40 – 57 inches tall.) Installation the first time wasn’t as easy as I’d hoped. Mostly it was due to the fact that it installs differently than our other carseats and it took me a few extra minutes to learn how it works. There’s a pull tab at the front of the seat that loosens the latches that work with your car’s Latch System. Once they are attached you just pull the tab to tighten it down. It only took me a few minutes to figure it out and get it installed. Next time will be faster and easier.
Parker is really happy in this seat. It fits her well and she’s very comfortable in it. Parker was super excited to have a big girl seat but even more excited that it has a cup holder and a “secret” pull out storage compartment for her little treasures. Mommy was excited that the seat has been side impacted tested for safety and that the latches keep the seat firmly in place so that Parker and start learning to buckle herself. The seatbelt slips through a little positioner that keeps the seat belt positioned correctly on her shoulder. We aren’t quite there yet but soon, Parker will be able to reach up, pull the seatbelt across her lap and buckle herself in. On that day you might see mommy do a little victory dance.
You can find out more about this car seat at www.gracobaby.com. It’s also available for purchase on Amazon.com for $67.99 right now. It comes in Tangerine, Atomic, Grapeade, and Pierce. It ships for free. If you’re shopping for a booster, congratulations! This is a milestone worth celebrating!
