It may not be something you think about but dryer sheets and fabric softeners usually contain toxic chemicals. Heidi Holland Seamon, an attorney researched and incorporated all-natural essential oils into her family’s routine and after witnessing the benefits, she founded Essential Oil Boost to share the power of essential oils with others. The company’s debut product is “Have a Ball” 100% Wool Dryer Balls, a healthy, sustainable, practical and affordable alternative to traditional fabric softeners.
The company offers nine color combinations and eight embellishment options for each custom set of four handmade 100% wool dryer balls. In addition, an essential oil sample is included with each Have a Ball!™ set for great smelling laundry! My set came with a sample of lavender. Lavender is a nice calming fragrance. It pairs with with Young Living’s Joy essential oil which is the combination I’ve been using with my wool dryer balls. Just add a couple drops directly to the ball near the end of the drying cycle for fresh, clean smelling laundry!
Have a Ball! wool dryer balls are double felted so they will not unravel. The won’t fade, or run onto clothes either. What they do is bounce around inside your dryer and separate clothing, allowing air to circulate more freely. The 100% natural wool construction helps absorb moisture from the load and reduces drying time by up to 25% which means you’ll use less energy.
In 1991 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released a document that showed that potent carcinogens are found in fabric softeners and dryer sheets which also include chemicals such as benzyl acetate, which has been linked to pancreatic cancer. Ethanol which can cause central nervous system disorders and Limonene, a known lung irritant. Chloroform, which is a carcinogen and neurotoxin was also found . Liquid fabric softeners were found to contain formaldehyde.
These chemicals end up in your clothing and can be absorbed into your skin over time. The toxic vapors can also be released into the environment.
“Our skin is our largest organ; it is porous and absorbent,” said Heidi. “We buy organic foods, reject growth hormones in our meats and milk, and avoid artificial sweeteners… so why do we spend all day and night with toxic chemicals against our skin?”
We can get clothes that are fresh, soft and clean that smell amazing without using harmful chemicals by using Have a Ball wool dryer balls. I’ve been using them and find that they really do cut dryer time. I love that! But what I love even more is that they make doing laundry a lot more fun. I get to choose which oils I want to use to scent my laundry and the balls are fun and cheerful. My kids like to take them out and play with them while I’m folding laundry then put them back in the dryer for the next load.

I learned something from your post: “Just add a couple drops directly to the ball *near the end of the drying cycle *”
I had just been putting it on the balls when I put them in the dryer, but this makes more sense.
Thanks for the contest.
You’re welcome! Yes, it works better fragrance-wise to add it towards the end. I usually just set a timer on my phone to remind me to go back or I’ll forget!
