-Mission Statement, 1984
I know you’re beside yourself with glee that I am doing another Gardener’s Supply Company Review & Giveaway! I am tickled purple that to have first introduced Gardener’s Supply Company to you in my Gardener’s Supply Company, Two Columnar Apple Trees Review & Giveaway! I am ecstatic that there has been an incredible amount of interest; however, I am not surprised. Not even a teeny tiny bit, since I know how wonderful Gardener’s Supply Company is!
Today I want to share a little bit about this wonderful company.
Gardener’s Supply was founded in 1983 by a handful of enthusiastic Vermont gardeners. Today, they serve millions of gardeners nationwide, offering everything from seed-starting supplies and garden furniture to flower supports and garden carts. Though their company has grown, they remain passionately committed to providing garden-tested, earth-friendly products that will help Gardener’s Supply Company customers have more fun and success in their gardens.
Gardener’s Supply is proud to be employee-owned. They are gardeners themselves and have earned their customers’ trust by providing high-quality products, expert information and friendly, personalized service.
Gardener’s Supply understands the products that they sell because they use them in their own gardens. Regular product training sessions and a gardening certification program for their staff help them to provide the best service and support in their business.
At their headquarters in Burlington, Vermont, you can check out their store and stroll through their 3-acre display gardens. They also offer local seminars for special events throughout the year.
Gardener’s Supply will be generously gifting one lucky winner with a Raised Bed Watering System! This system is phenominal and is exactly what I needed! I was wasting way too much water by using the garden hose every day in the garden, but now with the Raised Bed Watering System set up I am spending less time watering and less money! -A win-win situation!
The Raised Bed Watering System comes in a compact kit that provides very helpful instructions for installation. It took my hubby and I a very short time (about 20 minutes) to set it up in our garden -no tools required. Unlike our previous system, where I literally tripped over the chords/hoses *every* time I went to the garden, the Raised Bed Watering System is compact and precise. Simply position the flexible tubing around your plants; place adjustable-flow sprinkler heads wherever you want them, (ensuring consistent, precise, thorough watering) and connect hose to spigot. This is perfect for a 3′ x 6′ raised bed. You better “bet your bottom dollar bill” I’m going to be adding a second Raised Bed Watering System to my garden soon!
The Raised Bed Watering System is $59.95 and consists of 50′ of 1/2″ main tubing; 50′ of 1/4″ feeder tubing; 12 sprinkler heads, plus accompanying hardware.
Now through Memorial Day you can take advantage of their Raised Gardening Bed Sale. Take 15% off either their 3′ x 3′ Grow Bed or 3′ x 6′ Grow Bed.
Kitchen Garden Planner (KGP) is one of the first reasons why I fell in love with Gardener’s Supply Company and feel I would be doing you and Gardener’s Supply Company an injustice if I didn’t highlight it. Growing up I was lucky enough to have a dad that LOVED gardening and was raised eating fresh yummy garden fruits and veggies. After my hubby and I settled into our home I wanted to start my own garden. It helped me feel connected to my family and my childhood, along with making new fun gardening memories of my own. Being a newbie, I began to search around online and happily stumbled onto Gardener’s Supply Company’s Kitchen Garden Planner. With this planner you can pick from 50 different crops and design the layout of your garden. You can customize the names of your crops with the “edit my crop names” feature. The “save” and “load” features allow you to design multiple gardens and work on them later; and you’re also able to print out or email your planting map. There’s even an option to choose from eight pre-planned gardens, all designed for a 3′ x 6′ raised garden bed. Kitchen Garden Planner even has a section to learn about planting and care, a very large and informative vegetable encyclopedia; and a place to learn about essential products needed for your garden.
You can also enter to win a free Kitchen Garden, a retail value of over $550! The prize includes: One 3′ x 6′ Grow Bed; One set of 3 Tomato Ladders; One set of 3 Vegetable Ladders; One Cucumber Trellis; One Bean Tower; One Pair of Nitrile Gloves; One Lifetime Garden Hose (50 Feet); Seven 20 quart bags of compost; One 5 pounds all purpose fertilizer; One Marking Pen; One 24 wooden plant markers; $200 for seeds and transplants; Plus and expert consultation! Hi A Henneberry =)
It’s amazing how many potatoes you can get from one plant! I am growing potatoes right now and they are over 4 feet tall now. =)
What’s your favorite potato to grow and/or eat?
I cant really see to enter the widget deal is getting in the way. I use to enter some of your contest but now cant with that in the way I can read part of the rules on what to do
Hi Sonya! =)
I am so sorry you are having issues entering Mommies with Cents’ giveaways! Such a bummer.
What is your screen resolution and what internet browser do you use (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, etc.)?
I learned that once onions are up and the stems have straightened, trim the tops with scissors to a height of about 2″. Repeat every couple weeks (sort of like trimming a Chia pet) until it’s time for your onion plants to go into the garden. This forces energy into the roots.
A Henneberry =)
Thank you so much for such a helpful and informative tip! I also have an onion tip for you. =)
If you grow green onions or buy them from the grocery store, you can keep the white part of the onion in soil or water, on your kitchen window sill that receives a lot of sunlight, and voila! your green part of the onion will regrow!
I learned that to avoid disease and insect problems, seeds should be started in a soilless growing mix, not in garden soil. A good soilless mix is a moist and spongy blend of sphagnum moss, vermiculite and perlite. The finer the texture the better.
What is a “soilless growing medium”?
Sphagnum moss is a dehydrated bog plant that is able to absorb 10 to 20 times its weight in water. It is used to retain water and provide texture. Look for moss that has been “milled” to remove debris and achieve a fine consistency. Sphagnum moss is naturally acidic (pH 3.5), so if you are creating your own soil blend, you should add some limestone to counteract the acidity. Sphagnum moss also has some fungus-inhibiting properties.
Vermiculite is mica rock that has been heated until it expands into what look like tiny multi-paged books. It is used to retain water and provide texture for strong root growth. Vermiculite is pH neutral, sterile and insoluble. It contains some magnesium and potassium, and also has a high cation exchange capacity, which means it is able to absorb fertilizers and release them to plant roots when needed.
Perlite is made from crushed lava that has been heated until the particles “pop” into white, sponge-like kernels. It is used to retain water and provide good aeration. Perlite is sterile and pH neutral. It holds three to four times its weight in water.
You can purchase a ready-mixed blend, or
