Today’s Tip from The Green Year: 365 Small Things You Can Do to Make a Big Difference: Check your children’s toys for lead.
“A recent rash of toy recalls may have you wondering whether there is lead in the toy trucks and dolls your children love. Lead pollutes the air, soil and water. It can also cause delays in growth and phsical development, especially in children.
You can purchase lead-testing kits for less than $20. Simply swab your children’s toys and wait for the results. If toys test positive for lead, don’t throw them in the trash. Instead, call your local waste-management facility to find out how to dispose of them properly.
When you’re shopping for new toys, chose un-finished wood or organic cotton. Or look for toys labeled lead-free.”
I think it’s crazy that we still have to worry about this stuff. There should be something in place that we can count on to protect our children in this day and age. Don’t you agree?
