I don’t know about you but I can use all the help I can get to keep my kids occupied this summer. I’m trying to keep their days somewhat structured with small activities, chores, outings, busy work etc. to keep them from getting bored and fighting. One of the “projects” they’ll be doing is Gramma in a Box. We’ve gotten deliveries for several months now so my kids are pros and always look forward to delivery day.
With this subscription service you get everything you need to make 2 candy crafts plus one cookie decorating kit for just $20. Considering the cost of the supplies to make these items plus the time it would take to gather them you are getting a great deal! Gramma Terry comes up with themed cookies and crafts each month with detailed instructions and bonus tips. This month was a minion and emoji theme.
Normally I’m at least close by when they do the project but this time around they were home with their dad while I was at basketball practice with their brother. They begged me to let them do it all on their own, including taking the photos for this post! I hesitantly agreed but I think they did a pretty good job!
The first project was Emoji Pops. They didn’t quite follow the directions on this one but they still came out alright.
The marshmallows were supposed to be dipped almost completely into the yellow melting chocolate with the tops then dipped into jimmies sprinkles for the hair. The girls only dipped the tops and then attached the candy decorations with dollops of melting chocolate instead.
The second project, Minion Bites, uses the leftover melting chocolate from project number one mixed with Rice Krispies cereal. It’s always a good idea to read through the directions of all the projects before starting to make sure you have all the right ingredients etc. I actually reminded my oldest daughter to thoroughly read the direction cards but it looks like she missed a step in this project. Blue sprinkles should have been added while the melting chocolate was still wet to give them more of a minion look. They still tasted good though!
Last but not least was the cookie decorating. This is their favorite! Gramma in a Box comes with 3 small colored frosting bags and always has fun sprinkles, candy, colored sugar etc. to decorate the cookies with. You usually get several different shaped cookies along with decorating ideas and tips.
I love these kits because all the hard work is done. I don’t have to shop for ingredients (many of which are unusual and hard to find but super fun and cute!). I don’t have to bake the cookies and clean up is a breeze. With just enough ingredients for each project, there isn’t a bunch of random stuff leftover to clutter up my pantry and since they share each project with the family they’re getting a treat but not a giant sugar high. Gramma Terry’s kits are the best — she puts her heart into creating fun projects and themes each month and we are never disappointed!
