Books are one of my favorite gifts to give children. Candlewick Press has released a “hottest books as gifts” guide for the holidays and it has some really wonderful and fun books on it. I was lucky enough to get review copies 0f several of them including Where’s Waldo? the Complete Collection, Let’s Play in the Snow, The Snow Queen and A Present for Santa Claus.
If you like the classic Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney and illustrated by Anita Jeram then you’ll also enjoy Let’s Play in the Snow by the same author and artist. It’s an adorable book for babies and toddlers. It’s the perfect size for little hands and has thick cardboard pages for durability. It’s a simple story about a parent (or any adult) showing their love to a child while playing a game of I spy.
Where’s Waldo? The Complete Collection is a really cool set of soft cover books housed in a sturdy box. It includes all 6 of the Where’s Waldo books. The recommended age group for these is 5-12 but I think this collection would make a great gift for a family with kids of all ages! I know I love the challenge of finding Waldo in all of the crazy places he hangs out and I’m MUCH older than 12!
A Present For Santa Claus is a book with the message and spirit of giving and thinking of others. The illustrations make the book really interesting and fun. At the end there is a special 3-D pop-up surprise!
The Snow Queen is an enchanting fairy tale about a little girl’s journey to find and save the boy she loves. It’s an adaptation of the classic Hans Christian Anderson tale and it is beautifully illustrated. It’s a hardback with a pretty partially see-thru plastic protective sleeve. The storybook is written in chapters and suitable for children (especially little girls) ages 6 and up. It has some potentially scary parts so an adult might need to preview it first.
