I Am Reading Game Review & Giveaway

I can’t wait for my son to learn to read.  I have loved to read all of my life and I hope that he will develop a love of reading as well.  It is an essential life skill after all, but I want him to enjoy it too.  Author and former teacher, Nora Gaydos has developed a series of products that present children with fun new ways to learn how to read .  The award-winning series, Now I’m Reading!, from innovativeKids contains leveled books, activities, games and plays to make learning to read exciting for children ages 3-7.

We received one of the games, Hangman Riddles, to try.  This particular game was aimed at children ages 4-7 and my son who is not quite 3 and half loved the rhyming story and funny pictures but wasn’t quite ready for the hangman game and couldn’t quite grasp the riddles.  The hard cover book/kit contains a wipe off hangman board with pen and a set of riddle cards.  All of the cards contain a word that is the name of a body part along with three clues and a riddle to help your child guess the word.  For example, one card says:

Ears

1. You have two of us
2. You cover us when it is cold
3. We help you hear

Riddle:  You have on of us on each side of your head.  We help you hear everything that is said.

I think the way the clues were phrased was what Jackson had trouble with.  When I rephrased them “you have two of these” “you cover them up when it’s cold” and “they help you hear” he understood better and was able to guess the word.  I think once he is a little bit older this will be a great game to help him develop his reading skills.  The size and packaging of the game makes it ideal for travel or play just about anywhere.
