In theory I love doing art projects with my kids. The reality is that my time is very limited and crafts that make big messes stress me out. My girls really enjoy crafting so I look for projects that can be done in short blocks of time and don’t require a lot of clean up. Surprisingly, there are a lot of really fun and easy projects that allow us to spend quality time together without huge time commitments or gigantic messes.
Kwik Stix are solid tempera paint sticks that dry in 90 seconds. They allow you to paint without using brushes or water. The design and consistency of Kwik Stix paint remind me of a glue stick. They twist from the bottom and smoothly rub paint onto your project. One of the really cool things about Kwik Stix is that they can be used on paper, wood, canvas, posters, aluminum and so much more!
The versatility of Kwik Stix allows us to use them for all sorts of projects! A few months ago we used them for rock painting. This month we decided to do a holiday craft. I purchased a wood block and some holiday stickers from the craft store.
We “painted” the block on all sides with Kwik Stix. Due to the wood grain and not being able to get into the nooks and crannies just by swiping the paint on, we used a paper towel to rub and blend the paint into the wood quickly before it dried.
Then we just stuck our stickers where we wanted them! This made an adorable holiday home decor item to display in our home. It would also make a great project for gift giving!
We doubled the fun by creating a design on both sides of the block making it reversible! For the blue background we used a silver metallic Kwik Stix to get a pretty, sparkly winter look. I love how easy these are to use. The colors are vivid and bright and they dry incredibly fast which makes smearing and messes practically non existent. What small mess it might make are easily cleaned up with water.
