It’s not very often that I sit down and watch a movie all by myself but yesterday I did just that. I had no idea what The Light Between Oceans was about but I judged the movie by it’s cover an assumed it was a love story. And it was. A multi-faceted love story that was beautiful and heart-wrenching all at the same time.
The Light Between Oceans was based on the 2012 best-selling novel by M.L. Stedman of the same name. This story of fate, love, moral dilemmas and the lengths one couple will go to see their hard-fought dreams realized was brought to life two-time Academy Award® nominee Michael Fassbender (Best Actor, Steve Jobs), Oscar® winner Alicia Vikander (Best Supporting Actress, The Danish Girl), and Oscar and Golden Globe® winner Rachel Weisz (Best Supporting Actress, The Constant Gardener).
You can own it on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD or see it On-Demand starting today! The setting of the movie is absolutely beautiful. It was filmed at New Zealand’s Cape Campbell Lighthouse that serves as Janus Rock, the small private island where the main characters lived, mostly isolated from the world. They had each other’s love and longed for a child. That’s where the story begins. I won’t ruin the plot for you but be prepared to experience the lengths that people will go through for true love. One of the take-aways from the movie that I loved was that you only have to forgive once or you can spend your life holding on to pain, anger, resentment, etc. You’ll be surprised by the depth of love and forgiveness in this beautiful story.
Bonus features include:
BLU-RAY & DIGITAL HD:

This documentary chronicles the unique approach and shooting style of director Derek Cianfrance and the production journey that inspired Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander and Rachel Weisz to fully embody their characters and explore the power and depths of love.
- Audio Commentary – View the film accompanied by an in-depth and thoughtful conversation between director Derek Cianfrance and his film studies professor Phil Solomon.
- Lighthouse Keeper – The filmmakers, cast and Cape Campbell Lighthouse inspector/maintainer Rob Sword share the history of the lighthouse and explain the typical duties a lighthouse keeper like Tom Sherbourne would have during an assignment on Janus Island.

I think this is the movie I have been looking for. I could not for the life of me remember what the name of it was because it had been months since I had seen the preview. You didn’t give anything away but when you said they wanted a child, it kind of hit me. This time I actually wrote down the title though because the medicine I take makes me forget everything.
Even if it’s not the right movie, you’ll enjoy this one! Great movie!
I have never heard of this movie either, but I judged by the movie cover as well! 🙂 It sounds like a great story! I am a SAHM to 3 under 7, so I never watch movies all by myself either. I may have to do just that! Thanks for sharing!
I’m not into watching romance movies but this one sounds a little more intriguing . Thank you for the review of this movie.
