In “Miracle of Sumatra,” author Jeanne McNaney follows, Gus, a young orangutan as he discovers his parents have been trapped by hunters who have come to Sumatra to hunt the orangutan. With the help of his friends, Maya, a little girl, and Gabriella, the guardian of the jungle, Gus sets out to save his parents and teach the trappers about the importance of their natural habitat in Sumatra.
As you all know, my kids are HUGE animal nuts. So, this book obviously went over well with both of my kids (my daughter more than my son who just kept acting like a monkey). My daughter listened to the story so nice and quietly while pointing out all of the great illustrations in the book. I am an animal nut myself, so I obviously love that it teaches my children the importance of our environment and the animals.
Dad-in-the-trenches and author Scott Gale offers a solution to common, modern-day family mayhem: create a family constitution. After a Mother’s-Day meltdown a couple of years ago, he decided something had to change in his family structure. Chocked full of personal examples from Gale’s own struggles to create harmony and balance in family life, “Your Family Constitution” entertains and educates readers on simple ways to make their families more engaged. Peppered throughout, he offers useful, practical advice and guidance on chores and allowances.
The first core issue in families is lack of time. I think we can all agree on this. How many times do you ask yourself why there can’t be 5 more of you? I know I do at least once a week. Gale stated there is a four step process that all families need to consider based on his own experiences with structure being the last and also including organization. Two of my favorite aspects of life!! This is a great book to have for reference. Everyone can use a little clarity at times and the author is great at displaying a greaet thought process.
