We were not dating very long (maybe 2 months). I was in college and he was pulled from college after 9/11 to fulfill his military obligations. He was visiting for Valentine’s Day. I had class that day, but as I returned I noticed my apartment was fully cleaned. He had also taken my watch to be fixed that I thought was broken. He had also purchased 21 roses. Thirteen roses were red and 8 were white. The red roses represented my birthdate and the 8 represented my favorite number. Together they combined to make my age. Later that evening we had dinner at Opryland Hotel.
I will never forget to this day how my roommate kept telling me how I needed to hold onto him and she was amazed at how he had cleaned the apartment all by himself. That stuck in my mind as we had just started dating and I didn’t know exactly where things were going. We’ve been married for over 6 years now and I thank my lucky stars for him everyday. He still continues to clean the house better than I do even! 🙂 He’s a keeper!

My most surprising gift ever was 18 months ago. My husband was an OTR truck driver and one day he called me out of the blue and said he wasn't coming home and wanted a divorce. I couldn't believe it. I immediately checked our bank account online, and not only had he taken all the money out, but it was withdrawn by almost $500 that I'd sent out in bills that had hit since he withdrew the money. I had 2 teens sitting there, and no way to pay anything or buy food. I belong to an online parenting site, and posted what had happened. A couple weeks later, I received a message from a girl that's local to me from the site. She said she knew I was feeling down and wanted to meet me at my church that night, to give me a hug. After the service, she pulled some cards out of her purse. She said that some of the ladies from the site had been working together and wanted to give me these cards to brighten my day. To my astonishment, I had a $100 gift card to Kroger, a $100 gift card to a local day spa, and SIX $100 pre-paid Visa cards. I literally couldn't speak I was so shocked and humbled. This will always be the most surpising gift I've ever received. Nothing could ever top the feeling that people cared about me and my children, at a time the one person I *thought* cared walked out and stole from his family.
