When you’re a kid, flashlights are super fun. You don’t have to be camping. Shoot, it doesn’t even have to be night time. Crawl under a blanket or close yourself in a closet or bathroom without a window and you’re in business! Moulin Roty takes the fun to a new level. A few months ago we tried out their Shadow Puppet Set and my kids had a blast! More recently, we experienced the Cinema Box which was equally fun!
The set comes with a mini View-Master mounted on a flashlight with five story discs, admission tickets, and a “Now Showing” pad of paper in a beautiful box that’s lid doubles as a screen. Right away I knew we’d be in for an adventure. My kids worked together to create a movie theater and plotted to sell tickets to their show. I’m super surprised that they didn’t factor popcorn into their plot. They took turns selling the tickets to each other and then giving them back for entry to the theater.
We have a theater room in our house so they decided to use the screen which was pretty funny because the screen is huge but the movies in this kit are quite small (since they are designed to be played on the lid of the box). They had fun experimenting with the picture by moving closer or farther away to get the desired picture though we were never really able to get a super clear picture, even on the box lid. Still, it’s a lot of fun. The kids get to make up their own story for the movies and tell it slide by slide. That’s what I love about the Cinema Box — it’s designed for opened ended, creative play. There’s a cowboy flick, a pirate tale, a superhero adventure and more! It’s fun to watch how imaginative kids can be, especially when you take away their devices for awhile! The Cinema Box is a great and much needed break from the iPad and gaming devices.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review of the Moulin Roty Cinema Box. It always warms my heart to see kids playing with our toys and having a great time. I was sorry to hear though that you couldn’t get a clear image with the flashlight so I thought I would offer a couple of tips: Be sure the disc is in securely; holding the flashlight in one hand you should be able to rotate it easily with your thumb. (Older kids should also be able to do this.) Try focusing the image using the red part of the flashlight. Also, adjust the distance of the flashlight from the wall or lid.

I didn’t realize that the red part on the flashlight could be turned to focus the image. I just tried it (yes, I closed myself in the pantry while my kids are at school and played with the flashlight) and it worked! The image is super clear now. My kids are going to be so excited when the get home! Thanks for the awesome customer service!
