My middle child, McKinley, just turned 5 in December. December comes with challenges for me — mostly the dreaded question “What does McKinley want for her birthday/Christmas?” In all of her 5 years I’ve never really been able to answer that question adequately. Sometimes it makes me feel like I don’t even know my own child. She’s never really been “in” to anything. She doesn’t play with dolls, or any toys really for that matter. She’s never had a favorite toy. All of a sudden she seems so grown up. She asked Santa for a purse and some lipstick for Christmas. She loves jewelry, dresses, nail polish and lipgloss. She loves snuggling with her favorite blankets and listening to music. She loves coloring but she doesn’t like toys. Does anyone else have a kid like this? It’s a bit of a mystery to me. My other kids play with things. They go through different phases of certain things they like. This year I tried the 18″ doll with matching clothing since American Girl Dolls seem to be so popular. Thank goodness I didn’t shell out the cash for a real one. She loved the clothes for herself but could care less about the doll and her identical outfits. I haven’t seen her play with it once. I don’t want her to grow up too fast! She already seems like a teenager! She’s a bright and happy child but I just worry that she’s going to miss out on being a little girl….
If you have a little girl, what types of things does she like to play with?
